Partnering with clients to make better financial decisions since 1989.
For more than three decades, Guardian has helped our clients navigate important financial decisions through coordinated advice, bespoke portfolio management and disciplined execution.
Understand
Your circumstances, structures, objectives and existing arrangements.
Strategise
Identify which decisions matter, in what order, and how they fit together.
Construct
Build the portfolio, structures and strategy required to achieve the objective.
Implement
Translate strategy into action, overseeing each step from execution through to documentation and administration.
Steward
Continually assess, refine, adapt and change as circumstances evolve.
Coordinated advice for interconnected lives.
Few important financial decisions stand alone. The decisions that matter most are often found at the intersection of investments, superannuation, taxation, structures, retirement planning and family considerations.
Our role is to understand the broader picture and ensure decisions are considered in the context of your entire financial position, not in isolation. Where specialist expertise is required, we work alongside your accountant, solicitor and other trusted advisers to coordinate advice around a common objective.
In our view, successful wealth management is rarely about a single investment decision. It is about ensuring every decision supports the broader coordinated strategy.
Discuss your circumstancesWho we work with.
Guardian advises individuals, families and organisations seeking thoughtful, medium to long term management of wealth. While every client's circumstances are different, our work commonly involves the following:
- Individuals and families
- Coordinated advice across investments, superannuation, tax-effective structures and family wealth. Helping ensure financial decisions are considered in the context of the broader picture.
- Retirees and SMSF trustees
- Managing retirement income alongside the portfolio, structures and administration that support it.
- Business owners and professionals
- Building and preserving wealth outside the business, while preparing for future liquidity events, succession, retirement and intergenerational wealth transfer.
- Sophisticated and wholesale investors
- Access to a broader investment universe, including selected opportunities not always available to retail investors. Each opportunity is assessed on its merits, structure, valuation, liquidity and role within the broader strategy.
- Families managing significant wealth
- Helping multiple generations navigate investment management, ownership structures, estate planning and the transfer of wealth over time.
- Trustees, foundations and not-for-profit organisations
- Advice and investment management aligned to the objectives, obligations and governance requirements of the organisation.
How a client is classified, and what that means for them, is set out in our Financial Services Guide.
One relationship, supported by a broader team.
Since 1989.
The Guardian view since inception has been that a partnership between Adviser and Client, through active management of client affairs, is the key to success.
Michael Gehde founded Guardian in 1989 after two decades abroad and senior roles at the World Bank. What he did not find on returning to Australia was the personalised service and individually constructed portfolios he believed clients deserved. Guardian was built around a simple idea: advice should be tailored to the individual, and the people who understand the client should remain closely involved in the decisions affecting their wealth. A number of those first clients, and their families, remain with us today.
Close to the Client. Close to the Decision.
We remain true to this heritage.
Many wealth management businesses separate client relationships, investment research, portfolio construction and implementation across different teams or external providers.
Guardian's structure is deliberately simple. The people who understand a client's objectives, family circumstances and financial position are directly involved in the investment decisions affecting their portfolio.
This helps ensure portfolio decisions remain connected to the broader strategy and tailored to the individual circumstances of each client.
Ideas may come from many sources. Responsibility for the final decisions remains ours.
